Officers in post as at 30.06.2008, may on attaining the age of 60, opt to cease to contribute to the Scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<\/p><ol start=\"3\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>&nbsp;When does payment of a surviving spouse\u2019s pension become payable?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It becomes payable when a contributor, who&nbsp;was married, passes away and leaves behind a surviving spouse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<\/p><ol start=\"4\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<strong>When is a refund of contribution made to a contributor?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\">A refund of contribution is made:-<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\">(a) when a contributor ceases to be a public officer<strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/strong>no pension is payable<strong>*;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\">(b) when on reaching the age of 60, a contributor has opted to cease to contribute to the scheme <strong>and&nbsp;<\/strong>no pension is payable<strong>*;<\/strong>and<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\">(c) whenthe contributor\u2019s spouse who is also a contributor to the Scheme passes away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\">*This applies when:-<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\">(i) a contributor has never contracted marriage\u00b9<strong>and<\/strong>&nbsp;has no minor child;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\">(ii)&nbsp; a contributor is either a widow\/widower\/divorcee<strong>and&nbsp;<\/strong>has no minor child;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<\/p><ol start=\"5\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>May I have more details when the scheme benefits are payable?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help you, a table has been worked out showing various scenarios. but<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;(ii) does not include the marriage referred to in subparagraph (i) contracted after the contributor has ceased to be a public officer or an employee, as the case may be;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cchild\u00b2\u201d,&nbsp;in relation to a contributor, \u2013<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(a)&nbsp;means a legitimate or legitimated child, a natural acknowledged child or a child whose filiation has been pronounced by a Court of Law, a posthumous child, an adopted child&nbsp;&nbsp;or a stepchild who \u2013<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(i)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;is under the age of 18; or<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(ii)&nbsp;after reaching the age of 18 is receiving fulltime education at a university, college, school or other educational establishment, until he reaches the age of 21 or ceases to receive such education, whichever is the earlier;
